MOUNT CALVARY COMMUNITY AT ST. MARY'S RETREAT HOUSE

UPCOMING PROGRAMS

We are offering programs here at St. Mary's Retreat House.  We hope that these weekday programs will appeal to many of you.

PEACEMAKING IN THE 21st CENTURY:  WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

This overrtnight retreat begins withe supper on Tuesday, January 10th and ends Wednesday, January 12th after supper.  This day of reflection will feature talks by Gary Commins, small group reflection of "what we have learned," and time to pray and be rejuvenated for the ministry of peacemaking.

In order for Christian peacemakers in the second decade of the 21st century to chart our next streps, we need to ask ourselves some questions.  Why do we seem to be invisible, scattered, and ineffective?  What is the world like today  Where is it?  What are the "signs of the times?"  Did we think we would be here 2 or 5 or 10 or 25 or 50 years ago?  Is this a time of persistence or resistance or evolution or revolution or small acts of coufrage or a persistent pursh for systemic change?  What strategies are we to pursue, and what is our personal vocation within the movement of peace and justice?

We will explore how our faith tradition gives us hope and how it activates us when "progress" is hard to find.

Gary Comimins is the Rector of St. Luke's, Long Beach.  He has been involved in peace and justice work since the 1960's Grape Boycott and the anti-war movement.  He's written about historical activism. He's been the national Chair of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship.  And he hasn't given up yet.

The cost is $90.00 per person and includes all meals.  Registration can be by email:  mtcalvary1@aol.com or by phone:  805 682 4117.
