Mighty Oaks from Little Acorns Grow: Chant and Hymn-based music to Stil Body, Mind, Heart, and Spirit

By Staff Apr 09, 2010 in Prior's News Bubble 1 1 comment

Through the ages, people have sung chants and hymns to communicate directly with the Lord.  Powerful vehicles in and of themselves, these inspired unions of text an tune can also generate larger musco-theological structures that animate the body, move the emotions, stimulate the intellect, and nourish the spirit.  For our 2010 musical meditations, we shall examine seven singular reprsentatves of the vast chant and hymn-based repertoire.  Selected composers include Johann Sebastian Bach, Benjamin Britten, Josquin des Prez, Maurice durufle, Claudio Monteverdi, Nick Strimple, and Ralph Vaughan Williams.  As always, we shall discuss, reflect, pray, bond as a retreat community, and "sing to the Lord a new song."

I am trying to locate or get some information on Bro. Robert Hagler, who ministered at St. Hilary Anglican Church in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. in the mid eightys. He was transferred to A Monastry in Califronia in the eightys. Would like to hear from or about him if that is possible, he would know my husband Bill and myself and Rev. David Long. Many thanks to God for some information. Mrs J. Brooking
